Decolonizing Education Systems for Inclusive Development
Authors: Shehnaz Yesmin, Christina Peter
This chapter explores the concept of decolonizing education systems for inclusive development. It examines the historical legacies of colonial education, theoretical frameworks for decolonization, contemporary case studies, critical analysis of current efforts, and future policy implications. The chapter argues that truly inclusive development requires fundamentally rethinking education, not just in terms of access, but also in content, delivery methods, language policies, and underlying epistemologies. Key themes include integrating indigenous knowledge systems, addressing language hierarchies, reforming teacher training, and reimagining education governance to be more participatory and culturally responsive.
